Islamic Reminder
Salah (prayer) is one of the greatest gifts and responsibilities given to the Muslim. It is more than a ritual; it is a direct, personal conversation between a believer and their Lord. In the rush of daily routines, it can be easy to delay, rush, or even miss prayers. This reminder is a call to re-value salah and see how deeply it affects our hearts, our habits, and our future.
1. Salah – The First Question on the Day of Judgment
Islamic teachings inform us that salah will be the first deed we are questioned about on the Day of Judgment. If the prayer is sound, other actions will be easier to rectify, and if it is neglected, a person’s record will be in serious trouble.
This shows that salah is not just one of many acts of worship—it is the core pillar after belief in Allah. It is a daily test of our priorities: is Allah truly first in our lives?
2. Why Do We Pray?
People sometimes ask, “Why do we have to pray five times a day?” The answer has many layers:
-
To remember Allah regularly in a world full of distractions
-
To purify the heart from sins, ego, and bad habits
-
To stay disciplined and organised – prayer structures our day
-
To seek help and strength during difficulties
-
To show gratitude for countless blessings
Salah is not for Allah’s benefit. Allah is free of all need. Salah is for our benefit – spiritual, mental, and even emotional.
3. How Salah Changes the Heart
Regular, sincere prayer:
-
Softens the heart
-
Reduces anxiety and loneliness
-
Builds hope and trust in Allah
-
Reminds us that nothing is impossible for Allah
When a person stands before Allah, puts their forehead on the ground in sajdah, and speaks to their Lord with humility, it breaks pride and brings peace.
4. Salah as Protection from Sin
The Qur’an tells us that salah restrains a person from shameful and unjust deeds. When we pray properly:
-
We become more aware of what is halal and haram
-
We think twice before doing something wrong
-
We feel guilty when we disobey Allah and are more likely to turn back in repentance
Salah acts like a spiritual shield around the heart.
5. Struggling with Salah – A Real-World Problem
Many Muslims struggle with:
-
Praying on time
-
Concentrating in salah
-
Feeling laziness or heaviness before prayer
These struggles are real, and feeling them does not mean a person is “bad”. It means they are human and in need of renewal.
Some practical tips:
-
Start by fixing one prayer (e.g., Fajr or Maghrib) and make it a non-negotiable habit
-
Use the adhan app as a gentle reminder
-
Make wudhu early when you know prayer time is near
-
Pray with family whenever possible
-
Before salah, pause for a few seconds and remind yourself: “I am about to speak to Allah.”
6. Khushu’ – Finding Focus in Salah
Khushu’ means humility, focus, and presence of heart during prayer.
Ways to improve it:
-
Understand what you are reciting – especially Surah al-Fatiha
-
Change the surahs you recite sometimes to keep your mind engaged
-
Pray as if this is your last prayer
-
Turn your phone on silent, avoid distractions
-
Think: “Allah is seeing me, hearing me, and knows what is in my heart.”
Even if the mind sometimes wanders, don’t give up. Keep bringing yourself back gently. Consistency brings improvement.
7. Salah in Times of Difficulty
When life becomes heavy—through sadness, illness, financial struggles, or family problems—salah becomes a place of refuge.
-
You can complain to Allah without fear of judgment
-
You can ask for strength when people don’t understand
-
You can cry in sujood and know that Allah hears every silent tear
Many people have felt their hardest moments become lighter simply because they did not abandon their prayers.
8. Small Steps to Improve Your Salah Life
If someone feels far from Allah, the road back starts with small, practical steps:
-
Make a firm intention: “No matter what, I will not leave my five daily prayers.”
-
Try to pray at the beginning of each prayer time as much as possible
-
Add sunnah prayers slowly, especially before Fajr and after Isha
-
Make dua after every prayer, even for 30 seconds
-
Remember that Allah loves those who keep trying, even if they fall and get up
