About Islamic Center

Muslim Legal Network WA (MLN WA) began in the early 2000s when a small group of Muslim lawyers, law students, and community advocates identified a major gap — members of the Muslim and multicultural communities were struggling to access affordable and culturally appropriate legal help. To address this need, MLN WA was formally established as a not-for-profit community legal organisation.

Over the years, MLN WA expanded its role from providing legal support to becoming a strong voice for law reform in Western Australia and nationally. The organisation has contributed to major legal reforms, including community submissions that supported privacy protections under the Criminal Investigation (Identifying People) Act WA 2006, and defending anti-racism protections during parliamentary inquiries on Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act (Commonwealth) in 2013 and 2014.

Through collaboration with the Australian Muslim Legal Network and participation in national security and human rights consultations, MLN WA continues to play an important role in ensuring that minorities and vulnerable communities are represented in legal policy discussions.
