Justice Policy & Legislative Reform: Shaping a Fairer Future for All
At Muslim Legal Network WA (MLN WA), we believe that true justice goes beyond the courtroom. It begins with fair and inclusive laws that reflect the values of equality, dignity, and human rights. Our Justice Policy & Legislative Reform work is focused on ensuring that Australia’s legal system serves every community with fairness — including the diverse voices of Muslim Australians.
Driving Change Through Advocacy
Since our establishment, MLN WA has actively contributed to meaningful law reforms across Western Australia and nationally. Our advocacy efforts have helped shape critical pieces of legislation, including the Criminal Investigation (Identifying People) Act WA (2006) and Section 18 of the Racial Discrimination Act Cmth (1975), where we played a vital role in defending protections against racial hatred in 2013 and 2014.
We continue to engage with policymakers, government agencies, and legal professionals to ensure that new laws uphold justice and protect the rights of all citizens.
Collaboration and Representation
Our approach is deeply collaborative. We work closely with Australian Muslim Legal Networks and community partners to develop well-informed submissions to parliamentary inquiries and national security reviews. Through this cooperation, we make sure that community perspectives are represented in policy debates that directly affect them.
Empowering Through Policy
Our goal is not just to react to legal changes — but to lead them. We use research, education, and consultation to highlight how laws impact real lives. By doing so, MLN WA contributes to a more just society where diversity is respected and every individual feels safe, valued, and heard.
Building a Legacy of Justice
The Justice Policy & Legislative Reform initiative is more than advocacy — it’s about building a legacy of fairness for future generations. Through continuous engagement, education, and reform, MLN WA strives to ensure that justice is not just a principle, but a lived reality for all.
